POSITION: CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

REPORTS TO: GENERAL MANAGER

SALARY RANGE: USD $4,000 – USD $5,000

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Chief Accountant is a key member of the Senior Management Team responsible for advising the General Manager on critical financial matters and managing the financial actions of the organization. The Chief Accountant oversees Financial Planning, Risk Management, Inventory Management, Financial reporting and Company Annual Audit. As a member of the executive leadership team, the Chief Accountant plays a critical role in shaping the company’s strategic direction and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. The Chief Accountant oversees the Accounting, Inventory and Insurance departments to ensure timely submission of reports and end of days’ work.

Main Functions and Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Leadership

• Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy aligned with overall business goals
• Provide strategic financial guidance to the General Manager and Senior Management Team, Lead long-term budgeting and forecasting initiatives.
• Provide strategic advice on financial risk mitigation and maximizing business potential on positive financial trends
• Evaluate investment opportunities,

Financial Planning & Analysis

• Prepare the annual budgets and financial forecasts
• Provide accurate and timely Monthly Financial Statements
• Monitor financial performance and conduct variance and trend analysis
• Develop KPIs and financial metrics to guide decision-making and update dashboard or provide regular reports on these metrics
• Oversee Company’s’ Annual Stocking Taking processes
• Develop procedures to minimize stock losses and improve inventory controls

Accounting & Compliance

• Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including billings, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, inventory accounting, cost of sales, revenues
• Accounts Receivable policy development and management (Policy terms and conditions, collections, write offs)
• Document business processes and accounting policies to maintain internal controls.
• Streamline and improve all operations and accounting systems.
• Ensure compliance with statutory law, financial regulations and reporting under the IFRS for SMEs Accounting Standard.
• Oversee and coordinate the annual audit processes.
• Implement and maintain strong internal controls.
• Ensure that all transactions are recorded, filed and reported appropriately.

Risk Management

• Identify and mitigate financial risks
• Manage insurance coverage and corporate risk policies
• Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulatory requirements

Cash & Capital Management

• Oversee cash flow planning and liquidity management
• Manage relationships with banks, investors, government and financial institutions
• Lead capital-raising activities and debt management

Team Leadership

• Build, mentor, and lead the finance and accounting team
• Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement
• Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, and Sales teams

Other Accounting Duties

• Meet with the GM and Senior Management team on a weekly basis
• Monthly Accounts Department meetings
• Prepare weekly Sales Reports with trend analysis
• Lead monthly Slow and Aged Stock Meeting
• Lead Monthly AR Meetings
• Present financial statements and performance at monthly board meetings

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA or equivalent
• Minimum of 5–8 years of progressive financial leadership experience
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulatory compliance
• Experience in strategic planning and financial modeling
• Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills
